The Beginning
Since the advent of electric light, little has changed in over a century. Sure we could argue the point by pointing to fluorescents, halogens, metal halides or high pressure sodiums. But really with the exceptions of mercury vapor and fluorescent lighting, we are still creating light through heating a resistor in a sealed envelope. And let's be honest about it, the majority of the changes over the last 100 years have been to every thing bit the light source itself. Looking at fluorescents, a technology closing on a century old, only the output has changed. The efficiency and form but the method of delivery is essentially the same. Through the recent advances in semiconductor technologies, we have entered a new era for how light is produced and controlled to fit our needs. Welcome to the Next Gen revolution.
