Energy Policy Woes
I recently attended a web based town conference with one of our local government representatives. He was scheduled to make an announcement regarding energy. I went into this expecting some sort of indication of support for national energy efficiency standards, cap and trade, renewables. Something along those lines. Wow was I delusional. The announcement was his introduction of an american made energy bill. The gist of this bill is the encouragement of intensifying efforts for american based fuel sources, not renewables mind you. Fuel sources. Oil, Coal and Biomass. Now biomass, I am less concerned about with the exception of impacts on food supplies. However, my slap to the face came when an interactive questionaire asked, "Do you support the increased efforts for oil and coal production by opening federal lands?". Obviously, I chipped in my two cents worth. But what astounded me was the results. 91% of those surveyed replied yes. Wow! Now I recognize the current issues with unstable regions, diminishing supplies, increasing demand, etc..., but come on. We cannot discredit efficiency. Hold those with the ability to change consumption responsible. There are more efficient methods. Period.
